Career Opportunities in Public Sector Bank
Public Sector banks are regularly conducting the Recruitment Drives for the post of Clerks and Officers. According to an estimate there are approximately 7.5 lakh bank jobs in the next 5 years. Two reasons that seems to justify this massive requirement in Public Sector Banks are:
- Record Retirement of Employees in upcoming the 3-4 years.
- Opening of New Bank Branches and Expansion of Business
Apart from these reasons, the banks had also received a Directive from the Finance Ministry to provide Banking Services to people in the under banked areas with a Population capacity of 5000 by Sept, 2012.
List of Public Sector Banks in India
There are 21 Public Sector Banks in India as given on the Website of Indian Banks Association (IBA). Public Sector Banks in India can be categorized into 2 parts:
(1) Banks Under IBPS
(2) Non-IBPS Public Sector Banks
Banks under IBPS: Recruitment in these banks is being conducted by IBPS since July, 2011.IBPS conducts the Common Written Exam (CWE) on the behalf of these Banks and issued the Scorecards to the Qualified Students. After that these students will apply for Jobs in 19 Public Sector Banks based on the marks obtained in the IBPS CWE.

There are only 2 Public Sector Banks that decided to stay away from the IBPS platform and would like to conduct the whole recruitment process independently
The 2 Non-IBPS Public Sector Banks are:
1.State Bank of India (SBI).
2.Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI)
How to Apply for Jobs in Public Sector Banks in 2012-2013 ?
As we discussed above that Public Sector Banks are categorized into two parts viz Banks under Banks and Bank not under the IBPS. The application procedure to apply for Jobs in both these banks is different.
How to get Jobs in 19 Public Sector Banks under IBPS ?
You can check name of the participating banks List above titled "List of 19 Public Sector Banks under IBPS".These banks recruit candidates through IBPS Platform.IBPS Platform is a Common Written Exam (CWE) conducted by IBPS on a specified date. The IBPS Exam is conducted for the posts of Probationary Officers, Specialist Officers and Clerk,. Those students who are declared successful in the IBPS CWE are issued scorecards with validity of one year. These passed students in the IBPS CWE can then apply for Jobs in 19 Public Sector Banks.
So, in case, if you are interested in getting a Bank Job in any of the above mentioned 19 Public Sector banks, then you must have to appear in the IBPS Exam. Currently IBPS is conducting 5 Common Written Exams (CWE's) (2 for PO/MT, 2 for Clerks and one for SO) in an year
How to apply for Jobs in Non-IBPS Banks?
There are only 2 Public Sector Banks (SBI and IDBI) that are not using the IBPS CWE Platform and hence these are called as Non-IBPS Banks. These Banks recruit candidates through Public Notifications in the Leading News Papers Like Hindustan Times, times of India, Tribune etc. These banks conduct their complete Recruitment Procedure viz written Test, Interview etc and did not rely on external agency for conducting the exam on their part

SBI is regularly conducting exams for for PO and Clerk position.The Notifications for these Exams are published in the leading Newspapers and the details are also made available on the www.sbi.co.in.In March, 2012 SBI had announced its Clerk Recruitment 2012, under which the bank invited applications for 9500 Clerk vacancies.
